Instagram is said to be experimenting with a fresh feature known as Ad Breaks, which introduces brief yet unskippable advertisements, as per recent reports on Reddit. Although the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform has not confirmed any specifics about the trial, Reddit users have shared that it is happening. According to comments on the forum, this development has left users disappointed, with some contemplating leaving the platform in favor of other social media applications.
Ad breaks feature on Instagram
In the Instagram subreddit, user @notthatogwiththename brought up the introduction of Ad Break, a feature that includes unskippable ads for specific users. The post received numerous comments discussing the feature without any prior information. One user stated, “I decided to share this because no one else seems to be talking about it.
Many users are unhappy with the social media platform due to this change. A user expressed frustration by saying, “I thought I was going crazy for two days until I saw your post. Thank you for sharing, goodbye IG.”
The users are now being shown three to five-second ads while scrolling on the app, which interrupts their browsing experience. One user mentioned that they tried to provide feedback to Instagram about this issue but couldn’t find a way to do so. Users have not seen any mention of Ad Breaks on the app.
As per user comments, the introduction of Ad Breaks has caused many users to think about leaving the platform and moving to different social media apps. One user expressed, “Whenever an ad break shows up, I simply close the app right away. If this continues, I’ll have to unsubscribe.”
Another customer expressed frustration with the company for not conducting any research before releasing the product to the public, causing a disruption in their experience.
