Rumors are circulating that Apple is in the process of overhauling its AirPods range, intending to introduce fourth-generation AirPods as replacements for the current entry-level Apple earphones. These upcoming models are anticipated to mark the most significant AirPods release thus far, boasting various enhancements such as a fresh design and upgrades to the charging case. Additionally, one of the two fourth-generation AirPods variants is rumored to incorporate active noise cancellation (ANC), a feature previously exclusive to AirPods Pro models.

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reiterated reports indicating that Apple is preparing to unveil two fresh fourth-generation entry-level AirPods, poised to supplant the existing second and third-generation iterations. These upcoming models, known internally by the codenames B768(E) and B768(M), with the “E” denoting “entry” and the “M” signifying “mid-tier,” are expected to debut with a revamped design, enhanced comfort and fit, and charging cases featuring USB Type-C connectivity. Furthermore, Gurman revealed that the mid-tier AirPods are anticipated to incorporate active noise cancellation (ANC) technology and include Find My speakers within the case, facilitating users in locating misplaced earphones.

Gurman additionally revealed that Apple’s suppliers are bracing themselves for the largest AirPods launch ever, as they prepare to commence production on the latest line of truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones. “The company aims to manufacture between 20 million to 25 million units of the earbuds, a notable uptick from previous new model releases,” he mentioned in the newsletter. It’s anticipated that production will kick off in May, with GoerTek and Luxshare slated to handle manufacturing duties. The official release is rumored to be scheduled for around September or October.

According to recent reports, Apple is expected to follow up the launch of the fourth-generation AirPods with a new iteration of the AirPods Pro in 2025. The upcoming third-generation AirPods Pro is rumored to feature a redesigned earbud, an upgraded H3 chip, and enhancements to its Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capabilities.

Furthermore, the Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to introduce updates to its wireless earphones lineup alongside the release of iOS 18. Among the anticipated features for the AirPods Pro is a hearing aid mode designed to assist users with impaired hearing, along with a built-in hearing-test functionality.

Currently, Apple offers the second-generation AirPods priced at Rs. 12,900 and the third-generation model priced at Rs. 19,900. Last September, at its ‘Wonderlust’ event, Apple refreshed the AirPods Pro model, which is priced at Rs. 24,900, by adding a USB Type-C port to the charging case.
